Business Practices
The purchase of post-consumer-content paper products and the establishment of an environmentally preferable purchasing policy are great ways to create sustainable business practices and to enhance the professional image of your business or organization. The Department of Public Works Purchasing Division uses Reuse Companies for retiring surplus office furniture instead of sending it to the landfill and consolidates product orders to minimize deliveries. Bio-fuels are used in the County fleet to the extent possible; hybrid and electric vehicles are used whenever possible. The County Roads Division mulches all cut trees for use as top soil and median mulch, recycles asphalt to use as a roadway sub-base or shoulder fill, and uses alternatives to pesticides along the roadways. The Community Development Agency has a successful program that certifies Marin “green businesses.” Green Seal promotes the manufacture, purchase, and use of environmentally responsible products and can assist you in finding these products in your area.
